Business process modeling in Academic institutions

Today, I’ve performed a Business process modeling seminar, dedicated to academic institutions, specifically the University of Maribor. I am truly delighted that fifty employees, leading staff, and academics participated in the seminar. The objective of the seminar was “to train participants to design valid business process models that comply with BPMN 2.0 standard.”

Seminar’s invitation text

Business processes are implemented in all organizations and represent key organizational assets that connect people, technologies, and information in order to achieve the desired result. Because they are intangible by nature, they are usually presented in the form of a diagram for the purposes of analysis, communication, and automation. The ISO and de-facto standard in the field is BPMN 2.0.

Objectives of the seminar

  • Why do we model business processes?
  • What are the advantages of modeling with BPMN 2.0?
  • What are the basic elements of BPMN 2.0?
  • How do we approach business process modeling with BPMN 2.0?

Materials of the seminar

Dedicated slides for the seminar have been prepared and are available on SlideShare (in Slovenian language).

The practical part of the seminar was performed in Camunda modeler, whereas the behavior of diagrams was demonstrated with Token Simulator Plugin.
