I am sharing my skills and knowledge via the university setting – IT Academy. Basically they are available in two languages: Slovene and English, where the they might be performed interpersonal (i.e. seminar) or virtual (i.e. webinar). More information will be available as the website evolves.

Seminars and Workshops

Seminars and workshops are derivatives of my lectures and tutorials suited for specific target audiences with clearly stated objectives. Currently they are available in the following topics.

Foundations of Business Process Management

“If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.” (W. Edwards Deming)

Business processes are regarded as the core organizational assets, with an immense impact on an organization’s performance. However, despite of their importance they are commonly managed inadequately. The main objective of the course is that the participants recognize the benefits of the process approach and get the basic knowledge on how to ‘take care’ of organizational business process. See more on ‘my’ processes.

Business process modeling with BPMN

“The hardest things in BPM (or business generally) are communicating clearly and purposefully in order to allow multiple people to collaborate successfully. A precise and well understood common language can only help that surely.” (Tim Stephenson

Business processes are intangible assets so they need to be somehow represented, best in a visual manner in a form of a process diagram. The main objective of the course is that the participants get precise knowledge on how to effectively communicate and improve their business processes with valid process diagrams based on the ISO and de-facto standard BPMN 2.0. See more on ‘my’ BPMN.

Foundations of scientific research

“Scientific research is one of the most exciting and rewarding of occupations.” (Frederick Sanger)

The ‘quality’ of the knowledge depends on how it is produced. The main objective of this course is that participants get the basic idea about the ‘philosophy’ of performing scientific research to gain valid scientific knowledge. Three most fundamental empirical research methods are explained: experiment, survey and case study. See more on ‘my’ research.

Foundations of effective business communication

“Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success.”(Paul J. Meyer)

Communication is a basic human activity which enables exchange of information among people by sending verbal and non-verbal messages. It is also essential within corporate environments, e.g. about 90% of the time in  project may be spent on communication by the project manager. And yes, communication can be improved systematically. The main objective of this course is that participants get simple explained theoretical knowledge of communication as well best practices on how to improve verbal, non-verbal and written communication. See more on ‘my’ communication.

Effective IT management with COBIT5

“No institution can possibly survive if it needs geniuses or supermen to manage it. It must be organized in such a way as to be able to get along under a leadership composed of average human beings.” (Peter F. Drucker)

In line with the above quote I can agree that ‘taking care’ of an IT department (or broader an organization’s IT) is a challenging job and at first sight its looks more as an art than a discipline. However, with a proper IT management framework the management of an organization’s IT can be performed systematically resulting in minimized risks as well predefined and consistent results. The main objective of this course it that participants get the basic knowledge about IT management, with the focus on COBIT5, the most popular and comprehensive framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT. See more on ‘my’ COBIT.
